Many of us hold a small device in our hands 365 days a year, 12+ hours a day. If you are a teenager, it may be more than that. We spend more time with our smart phones than any one person on the planet.
I never would have dreamed of such a thing in my teens when I bought the extra long spiral extension phone so that I could go around the corner in my kitchen to have a private conversation.
If I were to take a survey of parents, my guess is that 9 out of 10 would say that technology is the primary parenting dilemma in their household. The source of discontent varies: overuse, inappropriate content, lack of relational connection because of technology, etc.
Right now in our household we have three very distinct age groups: elementary, middle school, and high school. And guess what? Technology is an issue in all three for different reasons.
The media 101 dare will tackle 3 aspects of technology each day of the dare:
1. Practical – we’ll walk step by step through setting up safe devices for kids’ protection.
2. Educational – I hope to educate you on some aspects of technology that will help you in your parenting.
3. Inspirational – how technology can be a blessing.
Join me in tackling the biggest parenting issue of our time.
